Teacher Biography
Barbara has been a Hebrew language instructor for over 40 years, teaching ages 6 to 76. When she retired from formal classroom teaching, Barbara established the Adult Hebrew Language Institute, located in Rockville, MD. Classes at the Institute range from Beginners to Advanced, and private tutorials are also available.
Barbara received her B.A. and M.A. in Hebrew and Semitic Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has studied at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel as an undergraduate and participated in work at the Melton Centre for Jewish Education in the Diaspora, also at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Most recently, Barbara participated in and completed, remotely, the 3-week intensive School of Hebrew Summer Program at Middlebury College. In 2021, she successfully audited the 6-week program of courses of the Masters Degree program in Teaching Hebrew as a Second Language at the School of Hebrew, and during the summer of 2022, Barbara successfully completed the 7-week intensive Hebrew Language program held at the School of Hebrew on the campus of Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vt.
Barbara's areas of concentration are Hebrew language and literature, curriculum development, and creating customized curricula for individual adult learners. She is the co-author of published Hebrew language books for children that continue to be widely distributed for over 25 years.
